Therapeutic approach

My goal is to help my patients gain more awareness of their thoughts and feelings so that new responses are possible.

Change occurs when people feel the trust and support in therapy to explore their feelings and discover new ways of thinking and relating to themselves and others. Whether connecting with your child by using humor to create safety, or deeply attuning to the problems you want resolved, I place great focus on establishing a positive connection at the start of our work together.

I use mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapies (primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Gestalt) to help you or your child increase awareness of the present moment, understand the source of difficult feelings or reactions, and learn new strategies to create sustainable change. My approach is always tailored to you and what we’re working on together. Sometimes this means greater focus is paid to how unmet needs are influencing present ways of thinking and feeling, to discover better ways to support yourself and access support from others. For other issues, concrete strategies are offered that help you relate to your own experiences in a more flexible way to help you achieve your goals and focus on what you care most about.

Most importantly, therapy is a collaborative process where we openly discuss our work together to ensure that we are working towards meaningful change in your life.
