My background

Dr. Mathew Hirsch, Psy.D. - Licensed Clinical Psychologist

For over a decade as a clinical psychologist, I have provided therapy to people across a wide age range and with a diverse set of issues in both New York and New Jersey. I believe strongly in collaborating with patients and families to work towards meaningful change in their lives. I foster a warm and nurturing environment that emphasizes exploration, awareness-building, and examination of emotions, behaviors, and beliefs.

I obtained my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University and completed my pre-doctoral internship at a public hospital in Brooklyn. In addition to my clinical practice, I’m currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at one of the most established hospitals in Manhattan, where I see patients and supervise doctoral candidates. I completed a two-year post-doctoral Gestalt training program and am an active member of an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy professional organization, attending regular trainings and consulting with other providers.

I value collaborating with other clinicians and disciplines to gain a holistic perspective on patient care; I’m often in contact with psychiatrists and school counselors to ensure our care plans are complementary and supportive. When working with kids, I meet regularly with their parents to discuss how our work is progressing.

I’m currently providing virtual therapy and plan to resume in-person therapy in Brooklyn when possible. I’m an avid tennis and guitar player and enjoy hiking and camping with my wife and son.

I invite you to learn more about my approach to therapy and how it might be right for you or your child.
