Frequently asked questions
+ How can I begin therapy with you?
For adults: The therapy process begins with an introductory phone call for you to share why you’re interested in therapy and for me to tell you about how I work therapeutically. We’ll then set up an initial intake session to discuss your concerns in more detail and review relevant history that has influenced the issues you are facing; together we can set goals for the therapy and determine what we want to achieve.
For kids/teens: This process also begins with an introductory phone call. I conduct the initial intake session with the child’s parent(s). Then, I’ll meet with your child for three appointments before meeting with you again for a parent feedback session.
+ What type of therapy approach do you use?
I use mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapies, primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Gestalt Therapy. Learn more about my therapeutic approach.
+ What are your areas of expertise?
I’m trained to help people with a range of problems including anxiety, depression, OCD, and adjustment difficulties. I have particular interest and experience helping people with ADHD, family and peer relationship problems, educational and career anxiety, men’s issues, and parenting concerns.
+ Do you accept any insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider. This means that you are responsible for paying me directly and I will give you a statement every month that you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. For some inurance companies, I am able to submit claims on your behalf. After meeting your deductible, most insurance companies will cover between 40-80 percent of the session fee. You can contact your insurance company for more details about “mental health” or “behavioral health” reimbursement and reference CPT codes of 90791 and 90834.
+ Where are you located? Do you provide services in-person, virtually, or both?
My office address is 26 Court St, Suite 409, Brooklyn, NY. It is conveniently located near the Borough Hall, Jay Street-MetroTech, and Court St subway stops. I provide both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. For virtual therapy, I use a secure online therapy platform.
+ Do you prescribe medication?
No, medications for mental health concerns are prescribed by M.D.s such as psychiatrists, neurologists, or primary care physicians. If you are interested in a medication evaluation as an adjunct to therapy, we can discuss appropriate referrals.
